Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to announce that Peter Whittingham has agreed a contract extension that will keep him with the Bluebirds until June, 2017.



On the eve of his eighth season with the Club, Peter spoke exclusively to Cardiff City Player's Mark Denham on Wednesday afternoon, explaining his decision to stay in the Welsh Capital.



“I spoke to the Manager at the end of last season and he was keen to keep me here; as most people know, that was always what I wanted to do,” said Peter.



“I've loved my time at the Club and hopefully this means that that time will continue for a few years yet.



“There have been highs and lows over the past eight years, of course. But in the main we've enjoyed good times and I've enjoyed myself here; last season was special is as much as we reached the Premier League – it's what I always said I wanted to achieve with Cardiff City.



"That dream happened - and although we were disappointed not to stay there, we know we are good enough to get back there and stay for some time. The incentive is there – it's about starting this season well and going from there.



“I think that those of us who played in the Premier League last year will be better for it this season. We all know how good a division it is and that we are capable at that level. It's looking promising for a quick return, taking into account the players we have, so we're looking forward to getting going.”


And with regard to his own position in the squad as one of the most senior and respected players, the 29 year-old playmaker cooly replied: “I don't feel pressure on a personal level in that respect, although there's pressure on us as a squad to make the positions our own.



“Everybody wants to start games and it'll be hard for us all to get those shirts with the amount of boys here and the talent we've got. It's something I've always relished though and I'm ready to get going again.”

Great news and we all know he is a class act at Championship level.

I may be wrong but Whitts is our longest serving player and he could get close to 400 matches for the club by the end of this season. With a bit of luck if he does see out this contract he could end up in the alltime top 5 appearances for the club.

Gary 100% correct Whitts is class at Championship level.

Meh as good as Whitts is in the championship I was hoping to hit this article and it was Matts Daehli who signed a new 3 year contract, we really need to be tying him down too

Not the player he was a few seasons ago but not very often do you come across someone with his loyalty. So can't deny him this. Fantastic for him
