' CARDIFF CITY PLAYER GOING OUT ON LOAN '

Sun Jul 06, 2014 10:46 am

I am told that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has agreed to loan out centre half Ben Nugent to Yeovil Town.

Nugent was loaned out twice last season to Brentford and Peterbrough respectively.

With City having Mark Hudson, Ben Turner and Juan Cala already battling for two of the positions and Solksjaer looking to bring another centre half to replace the seemingly outgoing Stephen Caulker it looks a good move for Nugent in his development.

Don't forget about Connolly? Even though Malky tended to use him at right back, his natural posting is centre half

No where near the first team in my option.

Cardiff defender Ben Nugent is on the verge of signing for Sky Bet League One club Yeovil Town next week.

The 21 year-old centre half is in need of more first team football this season after he previously had spells at Brentford and Peterborough last term.

With City having Mark Hudson, Ben Turner and Juan Cala already battling for two of the centre back positions, Nugent will find it hard to battle his way into the first team reckoning.

Cardiff are also finding it hard to keep one time England player Steve Caulker at the club as he is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs such as, Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace.

Looked obvious for him to go out on loan and get some experience but not so obvious whether or not he will have a future here or not.

As much as I don't rate him and don't honestly seeing him getting a chance here let's see if he can try and improve.

Better off than releasing him then watch him rot away in league 2 for example.

Hope he gets loads of game time and proves why Malky had so much belief in him.

Good luck Ben!

Yep,

Then went to Brentford and was benched after one game and barely had another game for them. Not good enough and again proves how poor a judge of player Malky was.

Why are you bringing Malky into this?

Nugent is also one of the centre backs you selected in your Premiership team towards the end of our Championship winning season. We all make mistakes.

Nugent still has a lot of time on his side to become a good centre back. He has all the attributes to be a dominant, commanding centre back and it's better for him to get regular games at a higher standard than development football.

I love how fans love to write our youngsters off without considering their age and how many years they have ahead of them to improve.

settle down ross.

ive said many times he started superbly for us.

the reason i bring malky (you know, the manager at the time) into it was because he had such high praise of a player that ultimately has gone backwards quite fast.

He did start superbly for us and showed he is capable of playing at Championship level. He's gone a bit backwards, but that's obviously because of inexperience leading to a lack of consistancy. Brentford dropping him after one game would have hardly done his confidence the world of good. Let's see how he does given a run of games for Yeovil next season. He still has a lot to learn but he has many, many years ahead of him to learn. I feel a centre back of Nugent's stature is worth persevering with and after a couple of seasons of regular football, he will come on leaps and bounds from the experience.

in football terms he isnt that young, not really. Will be 21 later this season. i agree he needs games, and i suppose we lose nothing by loaning him out as i cant imagine his wages are anything to worry about.

If Nugent reaches 23/24 and doesn't improve, I will then accept he isn't going to make the grade. Hopefully he will do well with Yeovil and come back to us a much better player. If he can consistantly play how he started for us when he initially broke into the team, I think he will be worth keeping.

By the way, my comments in my first post weren't directed at you. I just read through it again and it comes across that I was personally having a pop at you, that wasn't my intention.
