Jordon Mutch is NOT going to Sunderland or anywhere else insists Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman

Monday Jun 02, 2014

By Terry Phillips

Reports today have been linking the Bluebirds star with a move to Sunderland but the Bluebirds chairman insists he won't be cashing in.

Cardiff City do not expect Jordon Mutch to leave this summer

Jordon Mutch has a major role to play for Cardiff City next season, insist the Bluebirds board - despite interest from Premier League Sunderland.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to have Mutch, 22, at the heart of his midfield in Cardiff’s bid for a quick return to the Premier League and is prepared to turn down bids from other clubs.

Manager Solskjaer has the full backing of the Bluebirds board and chairman Mehmet Dalman said: “We have not received any bids for Jordon and he is in our manager’s plans for next season.

“Jordon is a Cardiff City player and that will not change.”

Mutch was Cardiff’s top Premier League scorer with seven goals last season and there is little doubt Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is keen on the powerful midfield player.

Poyet may yet make an offer for Mutch, but national newspaper reports that City have accepted a £1.5m offer were branded ‘totally wrong’ by Dalman.

Sunderland struggled to score goals from midfield in their battle against relegation last season and Poyet is on a recruitment drive to sign young, preferably British players who have Premier League experience and can score goals.

Mutch would be an ideal fit, but Solskjaer expects to have the Derby-born former Birmingham player in his squad for the 2014-15 Championship season and it is highly likely he will be offered an extension to his current deal, which has a year to run, before the start of next season.

The Bluebirds have four new signings with Adam Le Fondre, Javi Guerra, Guido Burgstaller and Federico Macheda all confirmed, while Craig Bellamy, Tommy Smith and Simon Lappin have left the club. Don Cowie, who is out of contract this summer, has been offered a new deal and is considering that plus interest from other clubs including Blackburn Rovers.

Quite right too. Better to keep him for at least 1 more season and risk him going for nothing than losing him for such a small amount in the grand scheme of things.

If it's true that Mutch is down to the last year of his contract then that is a situation which should not have arisen.

As one of our better players a new contract should have been sorted before now.

If JM wants to play PL, football then it'll be inevitable he'll go but if that is the case let's hope City do all they can to keep him as hopefully he'll be playing PL football for City in 12 months time :bluescarf:

I'm sure we will have been trying to tie him down before now, but sometimes players can keep their options open and putting themselves in the driving seat for a big signing on fee.

It's just how it is, some players won't extend especially the better ones.......

We should keep him no matter what he is a great player and will help us with the Premier League push....

Or shall we say CEO'S or Chairmans side of the club should be dealing with this :thumbright:

If we dont go up next season, some will still blame Malky

As manager, and who sees over day to day training sessions, he should of been pushing the CEO or chairman to offer a new contract, to say the manager has nothing to do with offering new contracts to players is very naive. :thumbright:

Surely if you are going to blame Mackay for not offering an extension, one must also blame OGS for doing so. He has been here for over 6 months now & hasn't pestered the board for the same?

Or maybe Mackay/OGS offered him a deal and Mutch stalled so see if we were to remain in the premiership first?

To assume Mackay is automatically to blame is one eyed, to me.

Well someone's to blame, and to be fair to ole he's only been here 5 months, and new contracts would of been the last thing on his mind during a prem relegation battle :laughing6: I have no doubt ole will get it sorted this summer tho if mutch wants to stay which I have no doubt he does. :thumbright:

Agree, it's a shame it's got that way, but to automatically blame a manager that hasn't been here for over 6 months, with absolutely no proof, is unfair in my opinion.

I'm sure Ole had other things on his mind, but he was able to look at sorting contracts out for Marshall & Cowie in that time. So, to suggest he won't have looked at anyone's contracts, is also wrong.

Let's hope he stays, but like I said, he could well have been offered a contract and wanted to wait and see what league we would be in next season, before committing.

For what it's worth, I'd rather keep him here & risk losing him on a free, as I think he would be worth more playing for the team next season, than £1.5 in the bank. :bluescarf:

I hate it when chairman come out and say stuff like this, you never know what's around the corner. Just deny a bid has been received, you don't have to say he ain't going anywhere.

As much as the Daily Mail is normally shit, they are normally pretty good with Cardiff stuff, or at least they used to be. So it's not that surprising that quite a few people will be concerned with what's going on.

Totally agree. They look total divs or even liars if the player later leaves. Nothing is for certain until the contract is signed and the player arrives.

Common sense to just say no interest expressed as you said.

Glad if Mutch stays though. One of the better ballers!!!

Cardiff City have rejected reports that Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Jordon Mutch.
It had been rumoured that Sunderland had sealed a £1.5million deal for the 22-year-old, who scored seven goals last season but was unable to prevent Cardiff from suffering relegation from the Premier League.
Sunderland have already added defender Billy Jones and midfielder Jordi Gomez to their ranks this season, however, it does not appear as if Mutch will be joining them at the Stadium of Light any time soon.
Indeed, Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman insists that they have not received any offers for Mutch and is adamant that the former Birmingham City man has a big role to play as the Welsh capital club seek an immediate return to the top flight.
"We have not received any bids for Jordon and he is in our manager's (Ole Gunnar Solskjaer) plans for next season," Dalman said in quotes reported by Wales Online.
"Jordon is a Cardiff City player and that will not change."

Correct Daniel and with so much bullshit that has come out of our club in the last 2 years, no one nowadays knows who to believe.

Cardiff City have refuted reports suggesting that Sunderland have made an approach for midfielder Jordon Mutch.

The 22-year-old was Cardiff's top Premier League goalscorer in 2013/14 after finding the target seven times.

Those efforts were, however, not enough to keep the club in the top flight.

Having slipped back into the Sky Bet Championship, it has been speculated that Mutch could be among those reluctantly offloaded by Cardiff this summer.

Sunderland are said to be leading the chase for his services, with an offer already on the table.

Cardiff have rubbished those rumours, though, and say they are prepared to do all they can to ensure that Mutch remains on their books for the foreseeable future.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman said in quotes carried by Wales Online: "We have not received any bids for Jordon and he is in our manager's plans for next season.

"Jordon is a Cardiff City player and that will not change."
