' Austrian International signs on three-year-deal '

I’m a big admirer of the passion of the fans here."

Cardiff City are delighted to announce the signing of Rapid Wien midfielder Guido Burgstaller for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old Austrian International officially joins the Bluebirds on a three-year-deal having successfully completed his medical at the club on Thursday afternoon.

The towering midfielder enjoyed a fruitful 2013-14 campaign in the Austrian capital, scoring 12 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions, helping Rapid to a second placed finish in the Austrian Bundesliga one position higher than their third placed finish the previous year.

Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City Player after confirming the deal, Burgstaller said: “My decision to join Cardiff City was never in question when the club first contacted me, it has always been a dream for me to play in this country.

“I’ve followed Cardiff in the Premier League last season and I’m very proud and honoured to be given the chance to wear the Cardiff City jersey - I’m a big admirer of the passion of the fans here.”

Nicknamed ‘Burgi’ in his native Austria, the left footed midfielder started his career at FC Kärnten before transferring to the Austrian Bundesliga and Wiener Neustadt in 2008. Three years at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt saw him make 81 appearances, netting 12 goals.

A move to Rapid Wien followed in 2011 where he quickly established himself as a regular starter. 95 appearances in all competitions, including experience in the UEFA Europa League, has seen him score 25 goals from his midfield berth. A debut for national side Austria came in 2012 in their World Cup qualifying match with neighbouring Germany, a cap he added to last September in back-to-back qualifiers with Germany and Ireland.

Burgstaller’s most prolific spell came last season - a campaign topped off by a hat-trick in Rapid’s final game of 2013-14 and a 5-2 away victory over Ried.

After completing his move to Cardiff City, Guido has today reported for international duty with Austria ahead of upcoming friendly fixtures against Iceland and the Czech Republic.

Cardiff City Football Club would like to place on record our thanks to all at Rapid Wien for their co-operation in the transfer.

A two footed predominantly left sided midfielder.

12 goals in 40 with 8 assists last season.

Obviously there will be an Austrian football fan with extensive knowledge lurking on this site ready to say he is the next best thing but this guy could be a decent addition.

Time will tell but this for me is a positive signing in a position we are thin (Daehli, Noone, Kim, Harris?)

Really a position we were thin in with just Kim, Noone and Dæhli as real options in the top end.

Looks a decent player by all accounts, let's just hope he's better than Zaha.

I can't speak German but this sounds promising.

Sollte Cardiff City heuer wieder aufsteigen, hat er alles richtig gemacht, denn Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City & Everton sind sicher attraktiver als die EL

Judging by what's been said read/seen I'd have been happy if we'd picked him up last transfer window.

They all say they are sorry to loose him but wish him the best. They also think Cardiff will be back in premiership 2015 :-)

We definitely needed another winger, he seems out and out which is a change to most of our wide men bar Noone who are more suited behind the striker

They said if Cardiff go straight back up then hes made the right decision. Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City & Everton are more attractive than the EL. :bluescarf:

Yep, he looks like a typical winger. daehli will probably be played more centrally, no 10/ in the hole, to make the most of his play making qualities, Also this guy looks big and powerful which can't hurt, most our midfielders lack power.

The Rapid Vienna fans are obviously questioning why he would leave to go to a championship side when he could have stayed and played in the europa league.

Ole means business this summer. He's not hanging about anyway.

Mason and Daehli play exactly the same role so I think it'll be a rotational system between them(well at least I hope so as I enjoy both players) Daehli is okay on the flanks but easily better behind the striker. Correct though, even though he is a winger(Burgstaller) he does have some power. It's all about accomodating the players into a fast flowing system
