Possible or delusional ?

Completely delusional. You can't just throw money at it and all of a sudden become a top 5 club, or even stay up in their case. They'll be relegated like the rest of us soon enough.

Spurs throw over 100 mil into one season, and they finish six, surely that tells even the thickest of owners something.

the same season they also sold 100m worth or players... who happened to be one of the best in the world, while half of what they spent went on Lamela and Soldado

Re: Foxes top five ?

Thu May 15, 2014 6:54 am

If they are spending big in the summer. Is there any players there that miss out that could do a job for us?

Re: Foxes top five ?

Thu May 15, 2014 8:14 am

If they ain't careful, they will be back in the exact same position they were before, with huge debt. also, probably not a good idea to let every club know how much you have to spend on transfers lol

Re: Foxes top five ?

It's a risky thing to do, because if they do end up getting relegated, they've got a big wage budget on their hands! Just like QPR

Or PSG?

Or any other side looking for success?

i would say the paralells are quite similar to be fair.

Re: Foxes top five ?

Small clubs can't do it. Us and QPR are perfect examples. Leicester won't be anywhere near being a top 5/6 club any time soon. I think they might stay up for one season though.

To be fair they said in the next 3 years not right away

Well I wouldnt trust Pearson with all that money thats for sure. Some people like Pearson and like Malky just cant handle the money and simply championship managers.

Man City were already an established Premier League team who spent a lot more than that. Jon is correct. Leicester can hope for at best a mid table club for that investment. Also, people are forgetting that during this time other clubs at the top will be investing ridiculous amounts too. Lets look at Chelsea who are spending between £30-40m on Costa this year. Even if we take £30m that's Chelsea spending on one player in one transfer window 1/6th of the money Leicester will be able to spend.

Their owner is delusional. They can hope for a mid table club at best with that money.

Not a chance of top 5, but take a look at Southampton, top 8 after 3 years and did not spend a fortune, well run club, will probably be in the PL for the long haul, unlike badly run smaller clubs like our, we I believe are a good Championship size club and so long as we stay in that league and go for cup success now and again, our core 16,000 fans will be happy :bluescarf: :old: :bluescarf:

Southampton have spent about 75 million in the last two seasons... hardly a small amount.

I agree but this has basically been over approx. a 3 year period, so not vast amounts for a PL club when you see how much Sky give all PL clubs each year, they seem to be well run and top 8 for a club the size of Southampton is pretty impressive when you see the 7 clubs above them and the size of their fan bases etc :bluescarf: :old: :bluescarf:

75 million in two seasons, and some of those signings have been rubbish. But basically it shows that sucess towards the top of the league is possible with a mixture of spending wisely, good management, well run club etc etc.

To go to the 180m figure of 3 seasons that the Leicester chairman is talking about to reach the top 5, lets imagine that Southampton kept hold of Shaw and Lallana, then went and spend 105 million this summer... they would be there challanging i reckon.

Paying more than 1 million and throwing 35k+ at a non league striker.

Not going to back him up but gonna praise MM for this, Jamie Vardy was available for a price over Million, his agent demanded a lot in terms of wages and Leicester threw the 35k at it and I don't if we was in for him or not but well done MM, Leicester promoted and if they keep his wage price could possibly be as high as Cornelius, Drinkwater is on the same.

I like the way this owner operates.

1) He has bought Nigel Pearson time, he has given him a 3 year plan, so if he just keeps them up next year people the owner has told in this country and his own have been told he wants top 5 in 3 years giving Pearson time to develop and invest in the team.

2) He has said £180 million in 3 years, if they don't get relegated in the next 3 years, move up the table and the money in table rights they will earn around £180 million in 3 years, and over that 3 years they can replace players not good enough with players better than they already have, 11 players over 3 year period at an average of £16.5 million is a brand new team with the value ore than good enough to challenge for the title. Obviously when you take wages and things into account it would be those sort of payments but you get the idea with that money you can build a squad over 3 years if you buy right.

3) He can't lose, if he does invest the money and Leicester don't make top 5 in 3 years he can sack or blame Pearson providing he invest, if the first year they get relegated the parachute payments will cover any losses because they didn't buy big this summer, and if they stay in the premier league and next year he can make a profit he will sell.

It's great P.R by the owner if you ask me

Impossible, but with the right Manager they could do a Southampton and become a comfortable top ten.

You need to find the next Martinez or Brenda, but I don't think it will be Gary Monk

Some Managers mentioning no names, could go through that in a few seasons and still get them relegated....

180 m top 5?
No chance for 1 it will take more then that to build a top 5 team and second uou just cant buy any player just because he costs a few mill.
You lot most of all should know that.
