Simple question really, in your opinion does the next Wales manager have to be Welsh? In my opinion - given the current dire situation and lack of anyone Welsh to come in - we should consider applicants from any country.
That would mean a much bigger pool of managers, and we'd be far more likely to bring back the great football we played under Speed. England, Ireland and Scotland have all done so in recent years - England and Scotland both have a far bigger pool of managers than us - so I reckon we give it a shot. Can't get any worse.

Definitely not! Can't think of a Welsh manager I'd want in charge.

No - it's about time they looked elsewhere as our current crop of likely managers are not good enough.
Otherwise, over the next 20 years, we'll be seeing the likes of Andy Melville, Carl Robinson and John Hartson managing the team...

I'd be happy with Tony Pulis, at least we'll be hard to beat with average players. And with Rambo and Bale on form who's knows!

The captain does

The main problem we have is how much can the FAW afford to pay the next manager? Who would want the Welsh job? Maybe we are a team that could do a lot better than what we have done and Speedo's work all came to an anti climax due to Coleman but realistically will there be many foreign managers wanting to be the Welsh manager?

The only welsh manager id take would be Pulis, he's without a job and could be interested he also knows how to get results, other than that i don't think any are up to scratch and would take a foreign manager, Trappatoni has done good things for Ireland

People who want Pulis are clueless as well. Who is going to be the lone striker for hoof ball then? Answers on a postcard please.

No we need a foreign manager so that he will actually pick players based on how good they are. Rickets what the f**k was he doing on the pitch?

Without sounding like a broken record, we missed a trick not hiring Dutch Ray. He would have kept the stability we needed after Speed left us. (Still weird and upsetting to think about, mad)
We need someone to take a grip of the mediocre squad and get the most out of the few big guns we have.
I'm not sure that person is Pulis tbh, although I did think Coleman would do ok.
I think we need to get a majorly experienced manager in to give us the platform and set our 'style' which the FAW should set in stone for the next 10 year's.
Hated as he was, I think this is the role Toshack had before Speed over. Toshack blooded in a load of youngsters, set a solid base and to be honest, made us a hard working squad.
Who's out there? Would we draw a Capello, Hiddink, even Hoddle.
I don't think going for an up-coming manager would be good, similar to a de-mat-ey-o....spell checker needed!
Nor crusty stalewarts like Pulis, Dowie etc.
And definitely not a prick like Hartson.
My dream Wales scenario would be for Hiddink to come in, up until the next WC qualifying campaign, and then Giggs to come in to give the 'Hughes factor' when we were filling the Millennium Stadium.

I'm sure if I remember right then Houllier was on the verge of getting the job or in the last 3 with Roy Evans and to shack all those years ago and they give it to Tosh and we've gone backwards ever since. Get an experienced European in and bellers ray and they're own guys on coaching staff

I personally think that it's stupid that foreign managers are allowed to manage different countries. But considering a lot of countries do it, I don't see why we shouldn't.

Why is it stupid? They'll be looking to take the team forward and have them playing their best possible football, no matter what nationality the manager is.

I'm talking about the rules of international football, the rule that the players should be of the nationality they're playing for should also apply to managers. Wales managers should be Welsh, England managers should be English, Scotland managers should be scottish etc. That should be the point of international football.

I agree with the concept of that, and I'd like it to happen, but sadly I can't think of a decent Welshman who I'd want as current manager...

Guy Poyet or Martin O'Neil

No. Nothing is sacred in football anymore, Ireland qualified with an Italian at the helm, Iceland are on the verge of qualifying with a Swede at the helm. f**k this non ambitious ways of the FAW. Let's go the foreign route. Most our squad weren't even Welsh born anyway
Sat Sep 07, 2013 11:35 pm
No, he is just managing the welsh players.
Captain must be Welsh born tho.

We missed a chance with Lars Lagerbeck after the unfortunate event with Speedo, but ended up with Calamity (where's my passport) Coleman. Ambition from the FAW is awesome

Lars Lagerback was extremely keen to manager Wales by all accounts. He could see that we had a good squad with limited depth capable of something if the tactics were spot on. It was a perfect challenge for him and I believe under him we'd be at least competitive. Instead the dinosaurs and nationalists at the FAW hired a clueless Welsh man. A man who went from managing Fulham to a mid table Greek side in the matter of years.
Lagerback took over Iceland, a country with a good starting XI (not better than ours) with limited depth. He's done outstanding for them. Pulis would be the only Welsh manager i'd like at the moment but we just know the FAW will hire Hartson and if that's the case then by f**k... where do I start?
