Apparently Middlesbrough have put a bid in within the region of £1m, any thoughts?

Decent Championship player

Decent signing for them at that level.

A bargain if they can get him for a million. I expect him to have a good season if he stays injury free. He has the ability to play in the Premiership. It's a shame Jones kept playing an under performing Chopra ahead of him and ruined him. I know McCormack was no angel off the pitch, but he was no worse than Chopra and I always felt Chopra got special treatment ahead of McCormack.

Always getting goals in the Championship.
I think he should stay though.

good penalty taker

He did well for us, and probably left at the wrong time if I'm honest. He hasn't done too badly at Leeds and will score goals whoever he plays for.

Leeds fans will go nuts if hes sold, theyve ben promised a "new era"(for the 10th year in a row) under mcdermott and without bates pulling the strings
I like ross. always gives his best and will score for fun at championship level

In the 4-1 win over burton Albion, McCormack threw his shirt into the crowd and I caught it - I was 11 years old! I was absolutely gutted - makes me think, what would he have been like if he had stayed?

Warming the bench still, he was falling behind the new team we created.

Do we have a sell on clause?

Edging closer back towards to Scottish border for last move before returning to his homeland. A good championship player. Good luck to him.

Apart from that, was there anything else? Yes,,,the same player. The whole situation was handled badly imho, just like it was with Ledley, Adams, Thomo, Alexander, & one or two others i could mention.

Sorry Rick, but his off field antics didn't help him and he wasn't good enough at the time, as he had to be played out on the wing, as he was down the pecking order!
I also can't see the point in you naming other players who may have been mistreated to justify your argument, most of whom I don't agree with either!
ledley wasn't treated badly imo, Alexander wouldn't sign another contract the same as Ledley, Adams (I assume you mean Adam Matthews) could have a case, but Thommo wasn't good enough either imo!

Interesting. The off field antics of RM were well published at the time, & i can't help but feel that he was just a small part in a very lax culture within our playing squad at that time. A culture that allowed for certain individuals to basically do what they wanted, when they wanted ( within reason ), without too much management control prevailing.
As for Alexander, Thompson & Matthews, the fact is that DJ went public with his criticism of all individual three, all after a bad game. When DJ did this, i feel it was his way of telling them to leave our club.
As for JL, the common story was that PR stopped a last minute multi million £ move to Stoke City??? which pissed him off.
As for renewing his contract with us, i don't know.

Rick, there's a fair chance imo, that some of the reported lax culture at the club during DJ's tenure, which certainly wouldn't be allowed to happen under Malky's watch, was allowed to occur, as he didn't have the strength in depth at his disposal which Malky currently has!
Ross McCormack's situation possibly being one that stand outs, in that there were various reports about his off field activities coming out from various sources, but due to the shortness of quality amongst the squad at that time, Ross was chosen to play, albeit as a winger instead of his undoubted best position, as a forward!
IMO, even though Chopra (who's off field problems were also widely reported), was a far better player than Ross and I find it hard to question DJ's decision to choose Chopra to play alongside Bothroyd over him, in DJ's favoured rigid 4-4-2 formation!

Well I can remember DJ publicly slating Matthews, but whilst I'm not saying it didn't happen, I can't recall DJ slating Thompson or Alexander publicly!
Either way, Thompson left because he wasn't good enough to get in the first eleven consistently and Alexander refused to sign an improved contract, so left to sit on the bench for more money in Scotland!

As for renewing his contract with us, i don't know.
It was widely reported that we refused to sell Ledley to Stoke for a reported £6 million, which is the club's right!
In hindsight, as we failed to gain promotion whilst Ledley was with us, it was probably a mistake not to allow him to leave, especially as we eventually lost him for nothing to Celtic. However, it was widely reported that Ledley refused a pay rise with us, which according to Carl I believe, would have taken his weekly wage up to £14,000 per week and doubling his reported weekly wage with us. In the end, he opted to move to Celtic, as they reportedly quadrupled his wages up to £28,000 per week. The fact that the club may have pissed him off by refusing to allow him to leave to move to Stoke though, doesn't mean that he was treated badly, as he was contracted to us at the time and the club were within their rights not to allow him to leave!

Thanks overthemoon for a well written & informative reply. With regards to JL, that all sounds pretty plausable, & I'm sure you're right. I recall Steve Thompson having a major falling out, & row with DJ, apparently over DJ's attitude towards certain young players after a game at that time.
As for Neil Alexander, DJ also heavily crititisised him after a defeat by Sunderland, I think it was towards the end of the 2006/7 season?
