Cardiff City line up pre-season friendlies against Spanish and Italian giants

The club is currently in negotiations to bring two continental clubs to the Cardiff City Stadium in the weeks leading up to the start of the Bluebirds’ historic campaign.

Malky Mackay is set to test his squad against the cream of Europe as the Bluebirds prepare for life in the Premier League.

The club is currently in negotiations to bring the two unnamed continental clubs to the Cardiff City Stadium in the weeks leading up to the start of the Bluebirds’ historic campaign.

Firm details have yet to be finalised, but the fixtures will be played in the Welsh capital in the two weeks leading up to the start of the Bluebirds’ top-flight season on August 17.

Mackay believes top opposition from Spain’s La Liga or Italy’s Serie A would be the perfect opposition for his side to round off their preparations.

A training camp in Switzerland will be followed by a series of less high-profile friendlies confirmed so far – Forest Green, Cheltenham and Brentford – all away from home.

But then supporters can expect those pair of glamour home friendlies in August as a tasty aperitif to the mouth-watering main course ahead.

The Premier League fixture list will be announced on Wednesday, June 19, while City players return for the start of pre-season training at the start of July. They are going to Switzerland for a week-long training camp with the Premier League season starting on August 17.

The Bluebirds are likely to play five pre-season fixtures and four of those – all away – have been announced.

I like these sort of friendlies, not too far to travel and by the time they come around everyone will be craving their football fix.

On 2 July 2012 it was announced that the club would change its home strip from its traditional black and white stripes to a lime green shirt with black shorts and socks. The decision to ditch the traditional black and white stripes proved controversial with many supporters. The away strip was also changed to an all white kit with the dates '1899–2012' near the neckline of the kit to indicate the years when the club first played in an all white kit and the decision to bring it back in 2012

Are we setting our sights too low ?

Maybe we are superstitious or maybe we are looking for some early season wins.

Is it the correct preparation thou for Premier league?

I don't know about you but I love trips to the lower league grounds.

You don't see huge games going on in Pre Season that much.. most clubs travel abroad to vs shite teams to boost their fanbase etc.

On Facebook It says "Domestic pre-season games confirmed this afternoon "

Does that imply we'll be playing abroad at some point?

Agreed. The trips to Carmarthen were class, loved them. Forest Green was a good day out last year, though, but the veggy food at the ground was worth giving a miss - shame I didn't get something proper before I went in.

I enjoyed Forest Green Nedd and like you, I bought the veggie grub for me, my lad and his pals. I had to drive back with the windows down such was the fug in the car from veggie farts. I swear I could see Jesus's face on my car seat when I got out.

Doesn't one of Steve Borley's relatives have something to do with Forest Green? I went to our first friendly there. I thought it was great. If we should only support Welsh clubs then we should only be allowed to play in the terrible Welsh league. We should support grass roots and lower league football across the UK because without that there would be no Premier league. Our relationship with Chasetown is a great example of how clubs should open their doors for other fans no matter how different they may be.
