Leon Barnett has been recalled by Norwich City and will miss Cardiff City's final two matches of the season


Cardiff City defender Leon Barnett has returned to Norwich City.

Barnett played a key role at centre-back for the Bluebirds after being drafted in on loan, making eight appearances as they clinched promotion and the Championship title.

The 27-year-old, who had previously been promoted with West Brom and Norwich, was brought in when captain Mark Hudson was ruled out by his ankle injury.

Barnett formed a strong partnership with Ben Turner and was outstanding during City's run-in.

But he will now miss out on the celebrations after this Saturday's home match against Bolton Wanderers.

Barnett initially signed for Cardiff on a 28-day loan, while that was later extended to the end of this season.

Now that City have secured the title and promotion manager Malky Mackay has allowed him to return to Norwich, allowing young defender Ben Nugent the chance to play in the home clash with Bolton.

Norwich City have recalled defender Leon Barnett from his loan spell at Cardiff City.

Barnett initially signed for Cardiff on a 28-day loan in a deal that was later extended to the end of this season.

Michael Turner suffered a groin injury in the Canaries’ 2-1 win over Reading at the weekend which may have influenced Norwich boss Chris Hughton’s decision to recall Barnett before the end of the season.

The centre-back made eight appearances as Cardiff City clinched promotion and the Championship title.

Just to let you know that leon has been recalled by norwich and he won't be avaliable for the bolton game so he won't actually receive a medal or get to join in with the rest of the squad for the celebrations.

leon had family coming down to watch the game and was absoulutly buzzing for the game.

He would like to thank all the fans as he said they have all been great to him since he came and if we make a bid for him in the summer i think he would be happy enough to sign on the dotted line with a big smile as he already feels at home.

Think it probably will be released tomorrow.

Ah well. He deserves a medal and I hope if the club has the option to then they give him a medal. I'm half hearted on whether I want him here next season, he's a good defender in the Championship but at the PL he's not been given a crack which says something. I'd rather a youthful foreign no nonsense CB

He deserves a medal NQAT. Something tells me he will be a Bluebird and I really hope he's with us permanently. He's just slotted-in like he's been with us for a couple of seasons. And he wants to stay. I need to check what odds I can get on this lads.

The Club is waiting for further communication from the Football Association regarding any possible formal charge from them in relation to the matter.

They are given 18 for the players, and it is up to the club who they give them to, but they can apply to the league for extra if they think that more than 18 deserve a medal, but it is not 100% certain that the league agree to give them more.

Yes I know your missing the point if Ryan Bennett is being internally punished it could be the reason they want Barnett back as cover !

I remember reading kurt nogan getting a medal from preston when he played for us because he played 10 games for them earlier that season and i 'm sure i've heard it in commentary on prem games as well that you qualify for a medal as long as you've played 10 games

i know for a fact swell he payed £700 for his family to come to watch the game and they can't even watch him now.

Absolutely gutted for him to be honest, missing the trophy presentation and celebrations which Barnett richly deserved to be part of
