NOW OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED

Cardiff City Football Club are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with Norwich City to allow defender Leon Barnett to remain in South Wales until the end of the season.

Malky Mackay this morning said, "Thanks to the support of Chris Hughton and Norwich City, Leon Barnett will be staying with us until the end of the season. We are very grateful to Norwich for their help and look forward to Leon continuing his impressive form in a Cardiff City shirt for our remaining games."
All at Cardiff City echo Malky’s sentiment and thank Norwich for their assistance. Leon has played four games for the club so far, growing in stature with each fixture. He will be able to play for our remaining five games, starting on Saturday against Nottingham Forest. The loan is set to end at the end of May 2013.

Cardiff City hope to keep defender Leon Barnett until the end of the season

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay says he is desperate to keep defender Leon Barnett in South Wales until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old Norwich City centre back has impressed since stepping in for captain Mark Hudson but he is due to return to the Canaries after Saturday's clash with Nottingham Forest.

However Mackay has now revealed he is trying to extend the loan of the 6ft 1in star until the end of the season.

"I would love him to stay until end of season," said Mackay.

"We will be talking to Chris Hughton and are hoping Norwich will allow him to stay.

"But Leon is their player and we must show them respect.

"They were good enough to allow him to join us for 28 days and now I would love to keep him beyond that."

As well as his performances on the pitch, the Bluebirds boss has heaped praise on the way Barnett has fitted into his Championship leading squad.

He said: "The boy's attitude is spot on.

"He is a quality player and that shows why I have Iain Moody and the recruitment department in place.

"We decided he was the person to bring in when Mark Hudson went out.

"Leon has a couple of hundred games under his belt as well as promotions and more than any of that he is a good lad.

"There is a calmness about him I love.

"He has a bravery and calmness I also see in Mark Hudson and Ben Turner."

On the fitness of missing skipper Hudson, Mackay said progress is slow but his influence in the dressing room is still as important as ever.

He said: "Mark has done great but he is still on crutches and not available.

"He has travelled to matches, he is in our dressing room after games and he plays his part.

"He absolutely deserves to be part of everything we do from now until the end of the season."

Hudson was on Talksport on Tuesday evening and said he had just had his cast off and was now wearing a boot. He also said it would be mid May before he would be able to kick a ball. With Hudson out for the season we really need Norwich to say Leon can stay, Big Time.

What about the rumour Campbell is out for the rest of the season, any truth in that Annis.

Fingers crossed that we can keep Leon. Credit to Mark Hudson too, still the club captain. Cool heads needed for the run-in :ayatollah:

Someone tweeted that the loan extension was done a couple of hours ago. Nothing on the club site though. He wants to join us on a perm and I've have him here in a heartbeat. Slotted in like he's been a Bluebird all season.

Loan deal is being done and yes we are looking to sign him permanently at the end of the season. :ayatollah:

i think he would be a useful signing, he wins countless headers and his no nonense style is great. good experience and he always seems calm and composed never flustered or like a rabbit in the headlights. ive been impressed with him so far.

I think he's looked great. Brilliant in the air and seems confident on the ball.

I'd sign him up as a backup for next season.

Great news. Was really good to watch on Tuesday night. In the 5 games he's played we've only conceded 3 goals and kept 3 clean sheets. Be glad to sign him for next season.

2 of those 3 goals were penalties as well, none of which he was responsible for conceding! :ayatollah:

On the current form of Barnett and Turner plus the leadership of Bellamy I cant see Hudson getting back into the CCFC team when he is fit again !

I don't think he'll play again this season but if he was, I'd have Hudson straight back in the team. Both Barnett and Turner are the same in that they are good, no nonsense defenders. However they do like to play the ball long when sometimes you need to get your head up and pick a pass. Hudson has improved significantly in this area along with his defensive ability. For me Hudson is the best of the three.

There's no mention of a 24 hour call back on Norwich's website either, so I'd have thought there wouldn't be such a clause?

I've no idea how good Barnett would be if you put him on the left side and with Turner playing so well ATM, I couldn't see Hudson starting if Turner and Barnett were both fit!

It's academic ATM with Hudson out for the season, but if Barnett was with us next season, I'd suspect that he & Turner would form our centre back pairing!

The fact of the matter is....Barnett has been fookin brilliant, and Turner has stepped up to the plate since Huds has been injured, The options are fantastic, as and when everyone is fit, who would you drop, difficult choice!!!! Hope we can sign Barnett, prem defender no doubt :ayatollah:

Norwich defender Leon Barnett stays on loan at Cardiff

Norwich defender Leon Barnett is to remain on loan at Cardiff City until the end of the season.

Barnett, 27, arrived amid the ankle problems that ruled captain Mark Hudson out of their Premier League-bid run-in.

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay said: "We are very grateful to Norwich for their help and look forward to Leon continuing his impressive form."

Barnett has made four Bluebirds appearances and could face Nottingham Forest at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday.

Barnett has previously played for West Bromwich Albion, Coventry City and had a loan spell at the Canaries in August, 2010.

He then became a permanent player at Norwich in December, 2010.
