Have any of your rele's got a passport. If so, ask them to help you fill the form out. The post office will do the rest.

If you apply online you may need to pay a bit extra to get it checked, but they will then send you a printed out form with the right details. In the meantime, go down to Morrisons or wherever, and get some photos done in their booths.
Once you have a form, you need to find a professional person with a passport of their own who has known you for 2 years to verify who you are and your photo is who you are.
It sounds more complicated than it really is. Last October it took about a fortnight to come through, so you need to get going ASAP, as I think it takes a bit longer with a first one.
It will also cost you at least £70

For domestic flights you can use an expired passport (up to 2 years old) if you have one.

get your photos as mentioned, get them signed by your doctor/solicitor/local copper/head teacher/local councillor
pick up a form from the post office, fill it in as best you can, get it back to the post office, they will check it all over (charge is around £7:50) then they will send it off for you, a friend just had passports back in two weeks, but as mentioned a new passport has to go through verification checks and will take longer,
speed is of the eccence
