Hooligans why did they form in some clubs and not others?

Always wondered why some clubs back in the day had firms and done didn't? Look at Watford and Luton, Luton fans always up for a ruck yet Watford a few miles away never had any trouble.

You need to look at the areas they come from. The more downgraded the area the bigger the firm. Cardiff docks, Barry and the Valleys were neglected during the peak of hooliganism. Same can be said for the likes of Millwall and Luton. I would image the same for Watford.

What about Chelsea? Fulham? Brighton? All decent areas

Doesn't explain why Swamsea didn't/don't have a decent firm either but that's easy to put to bed:

Not really the docks area in Cardiff, or not that many from there. They came from the massive council esatates such as Ely, Tremorfa and of course Llanrumney. When growing up there we all knew of the people who were a part of these elements of the clubs, attracted initially through support of the club, then boredom after working shifts all week then looking to release their pent up frustrations on Saturdays. Earliest memories for me are being pelted with rocks outside the Ninian stand by Spurs fans and having a massive run in with the Wall, probably about 78.
I have older brothers who were are part of this, our council house was a shrine to sacrves and flags of others teams as trophies of war! After one Welsh cup game at Hereford we had 10 scarves in the living room!
Posher areas or middle class suburbia wouldnt entertain this fun, but anywhere in the country with massive council estates such as Manchester, Hull, East London, Plymouth and Bristol you would find hooligans who were all up for it then.

What about Chelsea? Fulham? Brighton? All decent areas

Chlesea and Fulham had rough areas like lost London clubs. Brighton was quite rough then.

It was renovated to try and give it a boom in tourism which has worked to some degree but the boom hasn't been as big as predicted. Also, Brighton may have hooligans but they're nothing big and never have been. The problem stems with smaller towns and cities trying to mix it with the big city clubs and make a name for themselves. No different to how it is on a personal level with young lads wanting to make a name for themselves within hooligan groups to prove themselves to the known hooligans who've been affiliated for years.

As for Chelsea and Fulham, they were always going to have hooligan elements. London's very divided when it comes to social class and very populated so the clubs at the higher end of the scale were always going to get those attaching themselves to the history. Also a lot of fans got involved because of who they knew and what they represented rather than the actual club. Over the years many became die hard fans and wouldn't have had it any other way.

You look at City's and you'll see thats where the biggest social divide is and that is why you'll also see more hooligans from the likes of London, Cardiff, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool, etc. The same even applies on the continent with Rome, Florence, Krakow, Moscow, Istanbul, etc.
