Help for a fellow Bluebird: Rental Rights

Sat Jan 26, 2013 10:29 am

Hi Guys

Renting an apartment with the Misses (who's halfway through pregnancy)

Boiler f**ked 3 weeks ago, they took 4 days to get an engineer out to take a look
and now we are still waiting for them to come back out to fix it.

3 weeks is too long imo

Section 11(c) of the Tenants Act 1985 state that
"(c)to keep in repair and proper working order the installations in the dwelling-house
for space heating and heating water"

Can I refuse to pay rent for the period without access to hot water?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :ayatollah:

i do believe that a boiler repair/replacement is the responsibility of the landlord you are renting the property off. i did the same a couple of years back by refusing to pay the rent until it was fixed and working properly again. the landlord shit himself and it was fixed within 2 days.

another option would be to tell your landlord that you will put the rent fee towards getting the ball rolling in terms of the boiler being sorted, he/she will soon pull their fingers out

hope its sorted soon :ayatollah:
