Merthyr Tydfil

Fri Jan 25, 2013 10:17 pm

Being born and breed in the Merthyr Valley I'm well aware of its history. If you are not though there's a really good programme available on BBC iplayer at the moment called Welsh Towns, there's a couple of programmes available, I highly recommend you watch the one on Merthyr if your interested in welsh history.

Merthyr is certainly one of Britains most historical and important places in my opinion, certainly a far cry from its reputation today.

Be sure to check it out lads.

The entire series is pretty good Gav. It shows many towns in a very good light historically - as well they should be too.

Mertyr was once THE most important town in the industrial world (bigger than the portal town of Cardiff until the late 19th century) and has a rich history indeed; whether it be for its industrial pioneering or standing up and fighting for workers rights ;)

Not from that part myself but work with many great guys who are :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Shame the locals never supported the local team instead of Cardiff and Swansae. Merthyr could have been a league team, like Newport the size of say Stockport or Swindon any day.
