Chelsea star Eden Hazard charged after Swansea City ball boy incident

Jan 25 2013

"The player has until 6pm on Tuesday 29 January 2013 to respond to the charge."
Huw Jenkins urges authorities to drop it.

The FA have charged Chelsea’s Eden Hazard following Wednesday's controversial Capital One Cup semi-final at Swansea City - but also warned clubs to ensure ball boys behave in future.

It is alleged that Hazard’s behaviour in relation to Swansea City ball boy Charlie Morgan, for which he was sent-off in the 78th minute of the second leg, constituted violent conduct.

After upholding the charge, a statement on the FA website today said: "The standard punishment that would otherwise apply was clearly insufficient.

"The player has until 6pm on Tuesday 29 January 2013 to respond to the charge."

In what appears to be a rap for the Swans, the statement continued: "The FA will remind all clubs of their responsibilities in ensuring ball boys and other personnel around the pitch act in an appropriate manner at all times and will liaise with competitions accordingly."

f*cking disgrace. If a ballboy won't give the ball to a player, the player should be allowed to use brute force.

If the IDIOT of a boy wanted to lay over the ball like a beached whale then HE is the one who should be fined or banned

Can't condone Hazard's actions but I don't believe he was kicking the boy (although you could argue that kicking any Jack is like chastising a dumb animal  ) but simply trying to get the ball back from him. The susequent investigation which PROVES the boy DELIBERATELY looked to slow up play should, IMHO, be taken into account when dishing out more punishment ;)

Hardly a Cantona incident, was it?

With acting like that he could get a part in 'The Valleys' (shallow and overstated)

Scandalous. Shows just how detached these f*cking idiots are from reality.

OF COURSE the red card was enough

One plus point is that the fat little c**t will be a laughing stock for the rest
of his days now. A little known fact is that he was only crying because Hazard
cracked the syringe in his pocket

Yep, quite a week for the Leprosy Stadium Leppers. Rangel being compelled to help their homeless and making the national BBC headlines. Then topped off with their Directors fat spoilt ratbag of a son then making global headlines. Then there was the three part BBC documentary on their acute homeless problem. So now the UK and world knows what their really like. Gypos. Great on the pitch. Embarrassment off it. Obsessed Underclass. Cannot f*cking wait to play them.

Kicking off: FA decision to charge Chelsea's Hazard for booting ballboy leaves union seething

25 Jan 2013 22:31
"This is over-egging it - a sledgehammer to crack a nut" fumes PFA's Gordon Taylor after three-match ban is declared insufficient punishment

The people have spoken: Taylor suggests public outcry made the FA charge Hazard
Players' union chief Gordon Taylor has slammed the FA for charging Eden Hazard over his ballboy kick.

Chelsea’s £32million star is already set to serve a three-match ban for his red card in Wednesday night’s Capital One Cup clash at Swansea.

Hazard was left stunned on Friday, however, when the FA deemed that amount of punishment “insufficient” and hit him with an additional charge which could earn him an extra one or two-game ban.

Taylor was left to fume: “I am amazed. I just feel, ‘Why are they doing this?’ This is over-egging it - a sledgehammer to crack a nut when there is a process already agreed.

"There is a need to be careful and proportionate. To miss three games, as Hazard will do, in addition to feeling bad about letting his team-mates down and leaving the pitch at that time - and then for the FA to rub it in? That’s really rubbing salt into the wound, isn’t it?

“We are moving towards a situation where we are going to get a bit more professional with ballboys and that’s a shame really because they have been part and parcel of the game for a long time.”

The ballboy in question, 17-year-old Charlie Morgan has been widely condemned by players past and present for his behaviour having suggested on his Twitter feed that he was “needed for timewasting”.

But the FA’s Governance team reviewed footage of the incident and decided Hazard should not have reacted in the way that he did.

A statement said: “It is alleged that Hazard’s behaviour in relation to a Swansea City ballboy, for which the player was dismissed in the 78th minute, constituted violent conduct whereby the standard punishment that would otherwise apply was clearly insufficient.”

Taylor added, however: “I’m a bit worried by a policy whereby the FA are seen to be reacting to public opinion. It's almost like a lynch-mob mentality at times.

“That ballboy clearly has a conflict of interest. He is 17, the son of a director and he knows he was in the wrong and he has apologised. The very fact that he has done that have been the end of the matter.

“We’ve got to be careful with ballboys because if we’re not there will be a repeat of such incidents.

“They will be slow to return the ball if their side are winning, quicker if their side are losing. Suddenly they are becoming a part of the game which is the last thing we need.”

Chelsea now have until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge. They will present their evidence to a three man commission. The FA, acting as prosecutors, will present theirs and the panel will decide whether to increase Hazard’s ban.

The Football Association have also warned ALL clubs to ensure the monitor the conduct of their ball boys in the wake of Wednesday night’s controversy.

It added: “The FA will remind all clubs of their responsibilities in ensuring ball boys and other personnel around the pitch act in an appropriate manner at all times and will liaise with competitions accordingly.”
