Cardiff City skipper Mark Hudson feels Dubai benefits
Jan 23 2013

CARDIFF City skipper Mark Hudson believes the Bluebirds’ training camp in sunny Dubai will do “wonders” for him and his team-mates.

Indeed, the no-nonsense defender confessed that no-one in the City camp was missing the cold snap South Wales is currently experiencing.

“We’re recovering out here after a tough spell with some warm-weather training and treatment,” said Hudson.

“Physically and mentally, this week will do wonders for us, I think. It’s great to be out here training hard in the morning and then relaxing in the afternoon in the pool or with some table tennis.

“Seeing the sun in the morning is a real benefit to us, especially with it so cold back home. I don’t miss that snow, I must be honest.”

Hudson himself is looking to recover from an ankle problem which forced him off early in the second-half in the Bluebirds’ 2-1 win at Blackpool on the weekend.

It was a fourth away win on the bounce for manager Malky Mackay and his men and a result which sent City 10 points clear at the top of the Championship.

“We’re in good form at the moment, particularly after Saturday’s good win,” said Hudson. “The pitch was awful at Blackpool and I obviously fell victim to it a bit as I turned my ankle during the first half.

“I came out after the break to give it a go, but it wasn’t feeling good at all. It was quite bruised and swollen.

“So, I’ve been having a lot of treatment out here in Dubai with the physios to help the ankle heal.”

New signing Fraizer Campbell was set to hook up with his new Cardiff team-mates yesterday in Dubai after his move from Sunderland.

And Hudson said the frontman would boost the Bluebirds’ squad ahead of the last 18 games of the season.

“Fraizer’s a great signing for us,” Hudson told the club’s official website. “I’ve played against him in the past and know what a good striker he is.

“His signing is a boost for the second half of the season and he’s a great addition to the squad. He’s been in the England set-up in the past year and his quality is undoubted.”

I am sceptical as to the affects this sort of break can have on a continuing season. I'd have thought full training in the depths of Russsia would bring them back thinking the UK is easy to play in.

But I bow to greater knowledge. Nathan Blake reckons and hours training in the sun is worth 3 or 4 in the cold.

If these sort of breaks, while other teams are training indoors or on poor pitches, give us an advantage lets hope we see a refreshed team pull Leeds apart. Leeds will be going all out for a cup win against Spurs on Sunday.

Just noticed that Leicester have brought forward their Wolves game to Thursday 31st Jan. they have the cup this weekend, then a home game against Wolves. This has given them an 11 day break before their run of away games against Peterborough and us.

It gives them 9 days before their game against Peterborough assuming they don't have an FA cup replay inbetween aswell ;)

its a good thing. less chance of muscle strains in the heat. They can maintain their fluids but then work harder in their heat meaning there cardiovascular systems are working harder. try a half hour run in the hot sun compared to a cold winters evening and you will see the difference!
