Could there be a consortium?

Mon Jan 21, 2013 10:21 pm

Of rich businessmen from china, malasia etc waiting for cardiff to get to the premiership before they invest?
Could there be a plan or plans in place?
If we get promoted what do you think the plans will be to take us up a level as a club? ( Financially not rebranding etc )

I think something is happening, not sure what dunno if it's good or bad but I certainly don't think Tan is stupid. He may no know football but he knows business.

the debt will be whipped would be the 1st step!... then they'll probably invest in bigger named players to make the cardiff brand larger in asia!

i have no clue about buisness but they've got to be the obvious ones!

I personally believe that could be the case.

I think that they wanted a red team but there were no red teams outside the top 6 that play in all red in the prem and we were an easy target due to our horrendous finances.

Tan's been tasked with sorting out the colour change, getting a good young squad, sorting out the training ground, stadium and historical debts and then phase two will see more money pumped into us from the far east.

Of course this could all be wishful thinking but it would make sense.

The idea of say four rich businessmen investing 50 million each into the club is not as crazy as it sounds

Look up Peter Lim. Tan has loads of business interests with him. Wanted to buy Liverpool but they wouldn't sell to him because Liverpool at the time wanted to see cash up front on the table whereas Lim didn't want to show his hand.

Funny how their business together is growing day by day (citation: http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/premium ... e-20130121) and that we are now red and on the verge of Premiership football as a capital city with international marketing potential. Granted, we're not based in London but we have an airport (which is rubbish) but its international and still puts us on the map whether people like it or not. He can get involved at a fraction of the price of what he could have bought Liverpool for including the debt and do what he likes.

More interesting is the fact Lim is a United fan (even though he wanted to buy Liverpool) and we now play in almost a replica of their kit. He has successfully marketed Manchester United in Asia using many avenues so he knows what he is doing. He likes to invest small, wait numerous years and then see a return on his investment for a massive percentage increase. He has the opportunity to do that with us to some degree over time.

Maybe the reason Tan said 'investment will have to be found elsewhere' when fans opposed the rebrand was because he knew without red and the rebranding there was no chance of Lim coming on board and help increasing the clubs worth a level where he could start making profit each financial year. The rebrand could very well be one of the demands made by Lim to get the club he wants in the Premier League and not only that, a club where he could probably change the badge to a different dragon style tomorrow and a lot of people wouldn't kick up a fuss as it would mean Premiership football and money being invested.

All hypothetical of course but interesting links. :ayatollah:

I think there is, I hate to sound too optimistic but you see the potential in this club and it's quite huge. I'm not saying Champions League material etc but if we get promoted, the whole city will boom, more and more people will come, the capital city of Wales, home of a Premiership team. We also have the surrounding areas coming here, that together improves our fanbase. I think if we were to gain promotion it would be similar to when QPR went up, they had quite a rich owner in the first place then when he was finished he sold it to another rich businessman. With all the guests coming here they may take an interest and want to become a part of it too.

I wouldn't be surprised. It's been hinted at several times by various people on the board and our newest director has an extremely impressive CV of Chinese media outlets and also owning the central television station in China(which I read somewhere was the biggest in the world)!

No wonder these jacks are nervously looking over their shoulders

JB's Peter Lim post is on the money. Massive appetite for premiership football and clubs are marketing vehicles for established and diverse businesses, aswell as a thing of prestige for the Forbes set. I've supported this beautiful club since the late '70's and I miss the rawness of the game and culture that I love. I don't like the commercialism of modern football but its a business now. That said, I can honestly see the seeds of something huge happening here. We shall see.
