Cardiff City fans’ improved behaviour has resulted in a change of kick-off time for their next Championship fixture at Leeds United.

Police had initially insisted that the crunch clash kick off at 12.30pm on Saturday, February 2, causing a clash with the Wales v Ireland Six Nations opener, due to kick off at 1.30pm.

After fans complained that the early start made life difficult for those wishing to travel, discussions were set up between the two clubs and West Yorkshire Police and it was agreed that the kick-off could revert back to 3pm due to a low threat of trouble.

A Cardiff City spokesman said: “This change of kick-off time has been made possible due to the reduction in the potential for disorder. This comes as a result of the improved behaviour of the minority of fans of both sides who have previously acted in an inappropriate manner.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this late change of kick off time may cause, but feel even at this stage, the vast majority of fans would welcome the change to allow more time to travel to Elland Road.”

Bluebirds fans will still be required to exchange vouchers for match tickets at a rendezvous point and supporter coaches will be escorted to the stadium for the fixture.

On the club’s official website, cardiffcityfc.co.uk, a statement read: “We would appeal for this improvement in overall behaviour to continue for the benefit of the majority of fans.

“In accordance, Cardiff City Football Club will continue to seek fairer deals for supporters in line with a control measure exit strategy.”

Nothing to celebrate IMO, they are taking the piss.

While common sense does prevail to some extent - it has pushed the cost of the trip for 4 of my lot up by £97.50 each.
