Spoken like a true Jack...

Fri Jan 04, 2013 6:04 pm

(On how many times we've been in the top league)

JB: It makes no difference how many times, we are there now and you lot are not. Live in the now not in the past

Me: Spoken like a true jack.

'History doesn't matter! The past?! Who cares about that?! NOW NOW NOW'.

Well, unlike the Jack's, most clubs have a history to remember. You've only just started writing yours.

JB: What a complete and utter pathetic excuse of a post did I say history doesn't matter ? All I said was that we have to live in the now as the history won't help you now!

And what history do most clubs have ? What have they won in most fan's lifetime ? The answer is not sodding much ! Your history is an fa cup win almost a century ago, how does that help you now ? Who is alive from that to remember ? All you got is a few pictures and an extra bit on wiki!

The swans are doing well now, we are the first and last club in Wales to be in the top flight, we are proud of that, you are just envious and comes through oh so much in your post.

Me: Hold on.

When did you say 'the history won't help you now'? You didn't even insinuate that

Anyway, it's a ludicrous statement in the first place. When did I ever suggest that history is supposed to 'help'? That's not the point of it at all. I think it's perfectly fair for a fan to be proud of their clubs history/past successes in any context. History is what makes a club after all and if we don't remember/discuss/celebrate it for years to come then that would be a true shame.

'What history do most club's have?' Cup wins, league wins, upsets, performing well in tournaments, even certain players can be integral to a club's history.

'What have they won in most fan's lifetime?' Your concept of history becomes increasingly bizarre. Whether or not it occured during one's lifetime is irrelevant. It's celebrated history and something that fans can justifiably be proud of. It's their club after all. Your Grandchildren should be proud that they support the first Welsh team to play in the Prem. They weren't alive to witness it, but that doesn't matter. Yet, according to you, it's stupid to celebrate it as it 'won't help you now!' and didn't occur during their lifetime

'How does that help you now?' IT DOESN'T, and it's not meant to 'help'. That's not the point of history (something you're clealrly not familiar with). Jesus.

'Who is alive from that to remember?' Why does that matter? Should we just delete all footballing history from over 80 years ago? Of course not, it's important to be remember and celebrate it regardless. So dull.

'All you got is a few pictures and an extra bit on wiki!' Um, we also got the FA Cup; a great achievement.

I've always said that your team is doing well, and your style of football should be commended. I'm not envious at all and would rather you stayed up than QPR for example. It does seem, however, that you have zero understanding of history and it's importance within football, which I suppose is charateristic of a Jack.

JB#2: There are only three chances of ever your Malaysian team are going to play us....FA cup,League Cup or if we were relegated!

His reply.

Oh come on, who discusses about how well you played in a fixture a century ago ? You go on any football forum and look at what is being discussed, it reflects what is being discussed on the terraces. Are they talking about games or situations from then or now ?

Most clubs have not won the fa cup, most clubs have not won the cup in Europe, most clubs have not won the top flight league. You have won the fa cup which is an achievement to be proud of, now what have you won since ? History only remembers the winners of competitions and you or us have not won anything in recent history.

I live in the now and look at our club is doing at the moment, the past does not win games. There is nothing wrong with that, and I've followed the swans for more than 30 years.

Perhaps the traditional bottle it in the second half of the season syndrome your club suffers with is because you are all still celebrating the fa cup win decades ago ? Or perhaps it's because you are just not good enough to go up?

You do sound like a bitter Liverpool fan bringing up the past.

Exactly.

I later added:

I suppose you also feel that celebrating your centenary this year is pointless as it 'won't help you now'?

Problem they have is what have they got to boast about other than being 1st welsh club in premier! can they tell their children/grand child they saw team play in fa/lc finals? My dad told me of trip to fa final in 27, so cannot obliterate club history unless club get liquidated! we may live in past but its a better one than theirs! Ffs what they going to say if we get up this year?
