How much % of Neath and PT is C.C.F.C?

Thu Apr 12, 2012 1:23 am

This is a debate which as gone on for as long as I have supported City!

But I just wondered what team, Cardiff or Swansea is supported mostly in Neath and Port Talbot?

I live in Port Talbot area, and I can honlestly say I see more swansea shirts than city but only recently since they have been promoted otherwise I would say its 50/50!

I had to move to Neath and its definately a jack area, probably a 90-10 split. I met hardly any the 2 years I lived there and everyone seemed to be a jack.

As for Port Talbot, closer but still Jack turf imo.

Up until this year I would say 40-60% or perhaps even 30-70% In their favour, outside of this year they will still have the edge and then when we swap positions it will go to 40-60% in favour of the bloooooooooooooooobirds :ayatollah:
Difficult to assess as Neath port Talbot goes up the valleys, Swansea valleys is jack by a majority but Aran valley is blue, but they should have and will have the majority, mainly in and around jack land.

Port Talbot is BLUEBIRDS territory, lads here don't wear colours as we're not scarfers, yes there is a large following of Jack's and they are plain to see as they all wear the shite gear.
The Afan valley is full of Cardiff fans also.
History will tell you what club Port Talbot boys follow. And on the occastions the Jack's try it on their always backed up by outsiders because their local numbers are minimal.
As for Neath same applies. For two towns close to Swansea they know the score, just ask them.
To conclude, yes there are obviously jack fans in both towns but there are more lads who support Cardiff City and one thing we all know is that we all stick together. West Glamorgans mental men.

You didn't meet that many people, by the sound of things. I've lived in Neath for 20 years and I still haven't met all the CCFC fans here, but I have met quite a lot of all different ages.

The Jack fans in this area tend to be triumphalist, due to the fact that they hate the thought of so many Cardiff fans on Swansea's doorstep. The Cardiff fans I've met are a lot quieter, until they're out of town - let's face it, it's a small town and it doesn't pay to get noticed by the polizei too much! More importantly, the Cardiff fans here don't have the smalltown mentality and don't actually dislike Swansea that much, whereas the Jacks truly hate us. My accent has finished many a conversation, so I have experience of the prejudice against Cardiff by some.

It's difficult to measure how many support each team, because a lot of people don't wear club gear - it's not everybody's cup of tea, whether you live in Cardiff or elsewhere.

They've lost 4 games on the trot, so their colours might go back in the wardrobe.

I lived in Neath from 2001-2006 and it was mostly blue. I used to wear the first Redrow Homes shirt we had all the time. People would always make a bluebirds remark, such as the ayatollah (it wasnt dead then). Especially around 2004 when we were in the championship. You'd see loads of City fans.

What a load of biased twaddle. My mistake for answering honestly.

Yep everyone in neath is a bluebird :?

No, Twaddle is a Jack, he posts on here.

I think everyone in Neath would like to be a Bluebird, but some of them are not welcome - they smell, you know.

I guess it all depends;

In regards to Neath, the town has traditionally been a rugby town, usually following Neath rugby prior to the Ospreys being formed. But obviously in terms of football support I'd say the majority support Swansea. Especially areas like Cadoxton, and the neath valleys. My honest assessment would be 80-20 split in terms of people supporting Swansea.

However, I'd say Briton Ferry, Skewen and Cimla have a higher percentage of Cardiff support, but still with a higher percentage of Swansea support. 60-40 split.

However, we come to Port Talbot, I'd say the Afan Valleys has traditionally been a Bluebird area, obviously being still close to Swansea they still enjoy some support in these areas. At present I'd say there are more Cardiff especially in areas like (Cymer,Bryn, Duffryn Rhondda, Abercregan, Croeserw, Caerau, Blaengynfi and Abergynfi) with support being high as 70-30 in terms of supporting Cardiff.

Other areas in Port Talbot, I'd say its very close, Baglan being 60-40 in terms of supporting Swansea. But a massive transformation over the years with Sandfields in my opinion, traditionally a stronghold for Swansea, but massive rise in young Cardiff fans, but I still believe its 70-30 for Swansea.

But areas like Aberavon, Taibach and Margam have a strong Cardiff presence, and I'd say its 50-50.

So like I said, it all depends, if anyone says there is more Cardiff support in NPT, they're kidding themselves.

Born and bred Port Talbot (Taibach) :ayatollah: id say at the moment because of majority of floating supporters plus ospreys rugby fans who have jumped on the gypo bandwagon (to see the likes of man utd, chelsea, liverpools ect) its approx 60/40 split in our favour (although it will change once the bubble bursts for our peg selling friends across the bay). there is definitely no jacks in town (if so where the f**k are they ?), and how else do you explain the police recently telling manchester city, everton & newcastle uniteds fans its safe to drink in port Talbot town centre and walk about enjoying our notoriously sunny weather on match days?
yes you see jacks walking around in their newly acquired adidas/ swansea Apparel but its looks tacky and cheap. most city lads from npt would`nt want to be seen in puma with Malaysia emblazoned across the chest. A small city badge on a smart polo, sweater ect does the trick.

Cantonmagic how can you say you “hardly met any city fans when you lived in Neath and everyone seemed to be a jack” you must have never been to a city game by train or had a drink in great western or Cornwall (and recently kiwis ) or stayed in the entire time

NEATH PORT TALBOT BLUES KEEPING THE FAITH

Absolutely spot on pal with no bias whatsoever.

I've always seen it like this in Port Talbot and Neath. The headers/fighters/well known lads in each town follow Cardiff, always have. These are the lads everyone on this type of forum will know of,come across and socialise with. Now the Jacks on the other hand have many more fans in both towns, they're bound to governed by geography but these fans are not as prominent/well known or 'out there' as your better known Cardiff fans.Just because you have a bunch of headers from both towns following CCFC doesn't necessarily mean the whole town is blue, believe me.

Port Talbot in years gone by was blue-My Grandad and Uncle (RIP) were born in early part of 19th Century and were both bluebirds as were rest of family. My dad is from way out west (New Quay) and he is also blue.

Traditionally CCFC support comes from all over Wales-it has changed since 80s but still Cardiff City are the biggest club in Wales

I live in Waunceirch and there is not much support for the jacks here, quite possibly the only place in neath with a higher percentage of city than jacks. I would also say that the only higher percentage of city over jacks in Port talbot is in the afan valley, especially Blaengwynfi where I am told there is the first jack family in history up there in Jersey Road :o

Lived in Neath town for many years now, come across plenty fellow bluebirds from my own age group mid 40s.
Not bothered by jacks generally although they are to a man extremely bothered to know if you are a city fan, the sad fucks.
Even people you think you know can become different altogether in situations where loyalties are revealed.
You stay classy Cardiff city!!

Due to proximity to jackland will always be a good jack support-on the other side of the coin Neath has always, and always will have a good support for the city.Dont know how much things have changed as i tend to keep a low profile nowadays, but when i was a youngster(am 52 now) CAERWERN,BRYNCOCH,CIMLA.FERRY were blue and skewen massively jack.rest of neath mixed.
my boy is in cefn saeson school cimla-in his class there are 3 st holders- 2 cardiff & 1 jack, most surprised considering jacks current poisition-furthermore the lad who is a jack st,his no1 team is chelsea!!! He tells me that of all the kids who support jacks most are their number 2 team.wheras those who are are cardiff are their no.1....good for the future.

There are City fans in all parts of Neath likewise there are Jacks. Can't see this ever changing with South Wales being such a small area. The Jacks show their colours which then gives the impression there's a load of them. The City fans around here don't except young kids generally. Most of the City fans I know around here wear casual clothing with a pin badge to show who they are. The only problem Neath has is it's close proximity to the second city. You have knobs who are from Swansea but might work in this area or drive their vans around here with their pathetic little swan on their dashboard trying to pretend they are proud that they are from the capital of smackheads  Cardiff should be proud they have a loyal and good following from Neath Port Talbot something the Jacks will never have from say Barry, Caerphilly etc. :ayatollah:
