' Aston Villa the main threat '

Tue Nov 28, 2017 9:39 pm

Long season ahead, sides will no doubt go up and down and have bad form and good patches. From what I have seen so far villa are the main threat, possibly Derby. Shef Utd are a great team but I don't think they have the squad depth to maintain a promotion challenge.

Fulham could be dangerous but still not strong at the back, shef weds boro Bristol city and Leeds all decent enough but don't have enough to challenge top two in my opinion.

Wolves at the moment look unstoppable. Time will tell but it's villa I fear.

Agree with this (above) as they seem to be getting it together under Steve Bruce; whilst Sheffield United are going to miss Paul Coutts and it may well hurt the big time! ;)

Villa are going to be there or thereabouts but losing Kodja is a big blow, and I'm not sure they are going to be able to strengthen that much in January.

Derby have lost to a very average side tonight and I'm still not completely convinced by Wolves.

This is probably the weakest championship for many years, i still think we are too lightweight up front but if we keep picking up points who knows :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

They will miss him, also brooks is a hell of a talent but he's a kid and the championship is a tough division. Up for grabs.

When zohore Harris and NML return we have enough firepower also Danny and Omar, besides this team will go up on the defence if it happens.

Wolves top and the rest of us are playing for 2nd. I fancy us.

Completely agree. Villa are the the ones to watch for an auto. But I think that in a Div 2 fight between NW and SB, there's only one under-the-radar winner. They have a nice ground but the same type of cowardly wanky fans as their deluded wanky wolves third-word-loving Brummy neihgbours. Sikhy Blinders

i think the next 6 games will be pivotal for Villa getting an automatic place...

VILLA next 6 ........................................CARDIFF next 6
LEEDS {A}.............................................NORWICH {H}
MILLWALL {H}........................................READING {A}
DERBY{A}..............................................HULL {H}
SHEFF UTD {H}.......................................BOLTON {A}
BRENTFORD {A}......................................FULHAM {H}
BORO {A}..............................................PNE {H}

obviously we need to look after our end , but i think there is a real opportunity here to stretch our 5 point lead over them.

Said this a fair while ago looking st their side and manager? Wouldn't be surprised if it's us and them battling it out for 2nd spot

The one big thing we have in our favour so far this season is that we don't seem to dwell on a poor performance and more often than not get a decent result after a poor one. This means that whenever a team appears to be closing the gap, there is more pressure on the to keep it up week after week and that is a tough ask! :thumbright: :ayatollah:

I agree with you about us being a bit lightweight up front. Be interesting to see if Warnock feels the same. I don't share everyone's enthusiasm with Zahore any more than I did with Owen Doyle. I know he has been out for a bit, but his 3 goals so far this season don't suggest he is going to be a prolific scorer. Take away his brief hot spell at the start of this year, and his stats as far as goals are concerned are not exactly very good. Hope he proves me wrong, but I don't believe he is much more than a 10 goal a season striker.

You’re right there is a long season ahead and too many on here think we are promoted already.
Things can change quickly.

Was thinking same other day 7th place have to win 4 more games than us to overtake don't think will do that due to our bounce back abilities , if win Fri that will heap pressure on everyone below us :thumbup:

I disagree with your point about the “weakest Championship for many years”. There are far more good teams around than our last promotion in 2013 - Wolves, Villa and Middlesborough have very strong and expensive squads, with Leeds and Derby not far behind. And we’re not too shabby ourselves!

There does seem to be a fair dew who always believe a 'successful' City team is down to the others being 'poor' rather than us being good! :roll:

There is no coincidence that we finally appoint a manager who can, uhm, manage and we suddenly find our feet in what is still a very competitive League! ;) :ayatollah:

I think we are in the happy situation at the moment, and one which I guess any manager would relish, of not needing to dwell on the results of other teams. As long as we go about our business from here on in as we have done so far, it's for the others to worry about our results. I guess a really important but difficult job for any manager is to keep the squad's minds fixed on his own club's performances rather than those of its rivals.

I have to be honest. I read all of the positivity on here in the summer and the discussions about you mounting a challenge in the forthcoming season. Although I didn't comment, I took the optimism with a pinch of salt and didn't have you in my top 6.

I now see you as serious contenders and from a Villa perspective, you are our main threat. I think that it is unlikely that Wolves can be caught, barring a major slip up on their part. They are too good. However, I think that if we (Villa) can finish above yourselves, it is almost certain that we will be in second spot and vice versa.

You have been grinding out some very annoying results, especially away from home. I think you have the best defensive record in the division and that makes you very hard to beat. Between now and the turn of the year, we have a very difficult run of fixtures whereas I understand that you have quite a winnable run. I'd be happy to go into January still 5 points behind you or 6 at a push.

I don't see a Warnock side blowing up and I think you will go the distance. You seem to be in a similar situation to us whereby your strikers are out but you are limping on with goals coming from other areas of the field. I think the one advantage that we hold is that we're more likely to be able to bring another striker in, in January than you are.

I don't think that Villa will drop out of the top 6 again but whether we can make 2nd is another question. I am absolutely dreading the thought of being in the play offs and can only imagine the pain fans must feel after losing a play off final - It must be far worse than losing a cup final.

Villa 100% our biggest threat this season.
Will Bruce buy in Jan? There aren't many strikers around unless stupid money is going to be spent but that youngster up top you have looks decent ( cant remember the name ).

We have 6 or 7 squad players injured who you could argue would be first team players.
I think Warnock will pull off 2 or 3 signings in Jan which will strengthen us further.

Pilkington out would free up atleast 20k a week imo.

Either of us could see the likes of Woodburn / Ampadu on loan me thinks.

Re: Villa the main threat

I don't think Bruce will buy in January. However, we may be an attractive loan proposition for the second half of the season for a striker who isn't playing games at his own club.

Davis is the current striker and he has been amazing. He is only 19 though and it is too much to expect him to remain consistent for the entire season. We are in desperate need of a striker.

Davis , that's the bloke! He looked decent when I've watched him on sky a couple of times.

Is Gabby still at the club!? I heard Ross McCormack is available :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6:

All credit to Villa, Bruce has them shipshape now and they have some fantastic players, I really rate their GK as well.

Wolves are beatable on their day and 7th April they will be beaten by us down at the Cardiff City stadium.

play offs are shite unless you win them. simple as that.
its not just the final either. youve won 2-1 away in the semi first leg, at home its 0-0 in the 90th minute and they score..then score again in extra time..what an abrupt shitty end to a season. i dont think i spoke at all for a week.

This Friday being the start of it when both clubs are in action. We could be 8 ahead of villa if Leeds, who we all love :lol: do us a favour for once.....if we finish above villa I think we will go up, simple as that. I love Warnock but didn’t think he’d sort us out so quickly...... :bluescarf:
