SWANSEA SIGN BIRIGHITTI

18/07/16

Swansea City have confirmed the signing of Australia international goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.

The 25-year-old, named in the A-League’s 2015-16 team of the season after some impressive displays for Newcastle Jets, has signed a two-year contract and joins on a free transfer.

Birighitti’s arrival at the Liberty gives head coach Francesco Guidolin further options in goal, with Lukasz Fabianski, Kristoffer Nordfeldt and Gerhard Tremmel already competing for the number one position.

As a Newcastle Jets season ticket holder, I've seen Birra play first hand numerous times. Unfortunately the Jacks have snagged themselves a pretty good goalkeeper. Great reflexes, vocal, extremely brave, and solid on crosses. Just a shame that he signed for Swansea. He would've looked good in a City shirt.

Another player to look out for is Aaron Mooy who's just signed for Huddersfield from Melbourne City (via Man City). I've got a feeling he'll carve up the Championship this year.

But they already have 3 other 1st team ready goalkeepers! He's probably for there development team?

Yeah it's a strange one, especially as he's already 25 years old. He definitely has the potential to be #1 at the Jacks, but you're right, he'll have a tough time forcing himself into the 1st team.
