" MANE LATEST "

Southampton winger Sadio Mane is currently undergoing a medical at Liverpool, according to Sky sources.

It is understood the two clubs have agreed a deal worth between £34m and £36m for the Senegal international, 24, to move to Anfield.

HODGSON: MY JOB NOT PRIORITY

Roy Hodgson believes there are more important things at stake in the Euro 2016 knockout match with Iceland than his own future as England manager.

"Every result is significant when you're a football coach, so of course this result is very significant, but more so for the football team and the country," he said.

"We desperately want to stay at the tournament, we think we're good enough to stay, but to do that we've got to get results.

"That's got to start tomorrow because there are no draws available, it's win or lose and we're aware of that.

"We'll be trying our best to win because we want to stay in the tournament for the team and the country."

SOUTHAMPTON MANAGER UPDATE

Southampton are in talks with former Monaco and Lyon manager Claude Puel with a view to him being appointed as successor to Ronald Koeman, according to Sky sources.

The 54-year-old Frenchman, who spent his 17-year playing career with Monaco, is without a club after ending a four-season spell as Nice manager earlier this summer.

The Saints have also been linked with Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, Walter Zenga and Fenerbahce coach Vitor Pereira.

'MANE TO HAVE LIVERPOOL MEDICAL'

Sadio Mane will undergo a medical at Liverpool on Monday after they agreed a £30m fee with Southampton for the forward.

A deal to sign Mane could be completed by midweek, making him the fifth player from St Mary's to join Liverpool in the last three seasons.

Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne are still at Anfield, while Rickie Lambert moved on to West Brom after just one season with his boyhood favourites.

The 24-year-old would be Liverpool's fourth new signing for the 2016-17 season, following deals for midfielder Marko Grujic, centre-back Joel Matip and goalkeeper Loris Karius.

A £30m fee would make Mane the club's third most expensive signing, behind only Andy Carroll and current Reds striker Christian Benteke, a £32.5m arrival from Aston Villa last summer.

FRANCO ZOLA SACKED BY AL-ARABI

Former Italy and Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola has been sacked as coach of Qatari side Al-Arabi.

Zola leaves the club after just one season in charge and appears to have paid the price for Al-Arabi's poor league form.

The Italian, who turns 50 next week, finished eighth in the 14-team league, exactly the same position and with the same number of points, 35, as the previous season.

Zola will be replaced by veteran Uruguayan coach, Gerardo Pelusso, who will become the Doha-based club's 13th coach in just the past six years.

Gunnarsson insists Iceland do not fear England

Monday 27th June 2016

Aron Gunnarsson is keen to find out whether Iceland have what it takes to hurt England in the round of 16 following their fine start.

Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson has stressed they do not fear England ahead of Monday's round-of-16 encounter at the Stade de Nice.

Lars Lagerback's men saw off Austria to reach the knockout stages, having previously drawn against Portugal and Hungary, and Gunnarsson is keen to see where they stand against Europe's finest.

"We are here to play against the best teams," he said at a news conference.
"We are not afraid of anyone. We are keen to measure ourselves against the best."
Gunnarsson has been impressed by England's performances so far in France, but is determined to fight for a place in the quarter-finals.
"We have been watching the tournament and I think England have been playing well. They have been playing decent football," he added.
"They didn't score against Slovakia, but they worked hard. We have to do the same. [Monday] is a big game and we are only thinking about that. We have to go out there and fight for it.
"The Austria game was difficult, of course, it was extra sweet to get the win in the end and get the extra two days to recover."

Wales fans will today discover the extent of Ashley Williams' shoulder injury which has left the Wales captain facing a race against time to be fit for Friday night's Euro 2016 quarter-final match against Belgium.

Williams underwent a scan yesterday following his collision with team-mate Jonny Williams in Saturday's last 16 win over Northern Ireland.

The captain refused to leave the field despite being in obvious pain, and he was seen after match wearing heavy strapping on his shoulder.

“Ash is a bit tender with his shoulder. The next 24 to 48 hours will be key, whether it’s bruising and just impact, or whether there’s damage to any ligaments or a tear in his muscle. Hopefully not that.

“We won’t really know until tomorrow, but he was struggling, couldn’t move his arm.

Chris Coleman will hope he does not have a decision to make and that Williams – renown for rarely missing games – will shake off the worry to be available.

But if not Coleman seems set to put his trust in Collins who enjoyed an impressive season with West Ham.

Coleman has utilised Gunter at centre-half in the past, bringing in Jazz Richards to play on the right, but the national boss added: “I wouldn’t change the whole team round if I am honest with you. I am not giving Belgium or Hungary any clues, but if you look at how we play, we play a certain way for a reason.

“Unless something drastic happens I wouldn’t change the whole team around and I would have no worries about Ginge (Collins) coming in. He is that type of character and is experienced as well. He is certainly not lacking in confidence as a man. He would relish it.”
