Tickets go on sale today for Ryanair's new winter service to Tenerife. 'We're really excited about this route,' says Dublin-based airline
Ryanair has confirmed it is return to Cardiff Airport with a new route to Tenerife
Cardiff Airport has received a significant boost with Europe’s biggest low-cost carrier Ryanair confirming it is investing in a new route to Tenerife – which if successful could pave the way for it adding more destinations.
The Dublin-based airline is returning to Cardiff Airport after an eight-year gap with the launch of a once-a-week route in October to the Spanish resort – a service which is projected to support 15,000 passengers annually.
If, as expected, the route is a success, Ryanair could potentially add further destinations from Cardiff as part of its European-wide summer schedule for 2015.
The airline, which last year handled nearly 80 million passengers across Europe, last operated from Cardiff with a route to Dublin which ran from 1996 to 2006.
It is confident that its new route from Cardiff to Tenerife will at least achieve its network plane occupancy average across Europe of 80%.

Belfast was with Flybe, not sure if anyone else has taken over the route.
Good news but 1 flight a week from Ryanair wont make a huge difference.

Don't hold your breath its one flight per week and I'm still waiting for the services of the A380 after that landing last year!!!
This is once against pure proganganda by the WAG because everyone now knows that the pruchase of the airport is a complete waste of Welsh taxpayers money.
What would be interesting is to see if Ryanair are actually paying anything towards this or is it a freebie excerise especially after the way they were treated the last time they where at Cardiff. It would have taken something financial for them to change their minds about returning.

Agree, I think the
airport is in the wrong place also, it should be nearer the M4 corridor.

The Welsh government should have had the ball's to close Cardiff
airport (Sorry I mean Vale of Glamorgan
airport) and invest in the much talked about severnside Intl
Airport (where LLanwern steel works land was) - but like usual bottled it and invested in a dud
airport which is located in the wrong place with crap transport links - (the lunatics are running the asylum).
But, they now have another chance, maybe with the closure of Uskmouth power station land?
Blooobirds Forever !!!

I have also supported the idea of the Sevenside International
Airport and what annoys me is that the WAG spent millions on getting Independant bodies to look at the idea, months later they come back with very positive feedback and just days after that the WAG buy Cardiff
Airport!!!!! Absolute Labour idiology that the Government should run everything including Airports yet its madness and we are the ones who are paying for it!!!
