Tournament boss makes security pledge as thousands of Welsh fans get ready to descend upon France to roar on Gareth Bale and the Wales team as they tangle with the elite

Euro 2016 will take place in France amid extra security
The head of the organising committee for Euro 2016 has promised France will take the "necessary decisions" to ensure next summer's tournament passes without incident.

Thousands of Welsh fans will descend upon France to roar on Gareth Bale and his team-mates after Chris Coleman's side booked their place amongst the elite.

Wales have waited almost 60 years to qualify for a major finals and the demand to watch the team will be huge as those success starved fans begin planning for France next summer.

Jacques Lambert, head of Euro 2016, admitted to French radio questions had been asked about whether the tournament should go ahead.

However, Lambert has sought to ease fears about security and played down any suggestion of the finals not taking place in France.

He told French broadcaster RTL: "To ask questions about the cancellation of Euro 2016 is to play into the hands of the terrorists.

"The risk level was up a notch in January, and it just got up a notch.

"We will take the necessary decisions for Euro 2016 to take place in the best secure conditions. I will not reveal what we are going to do because that would alert our opponents."

Lambert made his pledge in the wake of Friday's terror incidents in Paris. It is the second time this year that the French capital has been hit by terrorism, raising fears about fans' security at the tournament.

Euro 2016 takes place between June 10 and July 10 next year and Lambert continued: "The security in stadiums works well, the risk is more out in the streets, in spontaneous gatherings."

French Football Federation President Noel Le Graet had earlier said: "We will do whatever it takes to ensure security despite the risks that entail.

"I know everyone is vigiliant. Obviously this causes us to be even more vigilant. But it is a permanent situation for the Federation and the state."

One of the Paris incidents on Friday night happened at the Stade de France where the host nation were defeating world champions Germany 2-0 in a warm-up friendly.

The teams and stadiums will get the level of security they need.

The only way supporters will get anywhere near that security will be to have sectioned off areas with only supporters allowed in.

Even with all this it won't stop the most hardened Terrorist :ayatollah:
